Sony has once again proven that when it’s able to put PS5 stock on shelves, it’s able to generate dizzying sales statistics. For the month of June 2022, the new-gen system delivered double digit dollar sales growth year-over-year in the United States – and has driven the most revenue across all hardware platforms in the first half of the year. It’s worth noting that the Japanese giant’s console sells at a higher average MSRP than the Nintendo Switch, which outperformed it in raw unit numbers.
Nevertheless, it’s a welcome statistic for Sony – especially with overall hardware sales down eight per cent year-over-year. As reported previously, the US industry is in a bit of a slump, with sales for the first half of the year through June 2022 down 10 per cent year-over-year. This can be attributed to a number of things, including ongoing energy price increases and an overall lack of new-gen console availability.
PlayStation had a pretty good month overall, though, with MLB The Show 22 continuing to be the quiet smash hit in its first-party portfolio. The game finished fourth overall in the June 2022 software charts, increasing on its position during the previous month, and is currently the fifth best-selling game of 2022 so far, behind only its fellow Sony published compatriot, Horizon Forbidden West. Meanwhile, the DualSense controller continues to dominate peripheral sales.

The fact that Elden Ring is number 1 brings a tear to my eye. The game is far from perfect, but at least it doesn't insult my intelligence like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Horizon.
@Bismarck Nothing wrong with Far Cry or Assassin's Creed that many enjoy playing.
Plenty of people won't even touch a soul's game, however.

Good news overall, though I wish Gran Turismo and Horizon were higher.
Miles-Morales is high on the list yet again, I'm pretty sure Insomniac is doubling down on Spider-Man 2 for a 2023 launch, but I'm more excited for their Wolverine linear adventure.
Who the hell is STILL buying Minecraft to keep it in the top 10?
"It’s worth noting that the Japanese giant’s console sells at a higher average MSRP than the Nintendo Switch, which outperformed it in raw unit numbers."
So, basically, the Switch is still outperforming the PS5, mainly because if you want one, you can generally find one.
Dollar sales are pretty meaningless - number of units sold and profit made by the company on each unit sold are much more relevant.
@Bismarck maybe not but you insult ours, every single day.
😉
@Col_McCafferty I wonder why..
@Bismarck. Elden ring is one of the greatest games ever made.word up son
@sanderson72 new kids are born every day. Around the age of 5, they start playing it, so it could literally never stop selling.
Praise fromsoft [T]/
According to The NPD Group, Elden Ring was not only the best-selling game of June 2022 and the first half of this year, but it has also become one of the top 10 best-selling premium games in terms of dollar sales in U.S. history.
Here's to their next game!
@BartoxTharglod @naruball once again, I have to ask, why? Does GT and horizon being low, lessen your enjoyment of said games? Or is this like rooting for your favorite team, if they play shyte, you feel like shyte?
@Col_McCafferty I don't know why Push Square keeps indulging that clown tbh. He always has negative takes, not to mention insulting other commenters for having "lower standards".
Considering they're still hard to find, I'd assume at this point that all numbers can be considered a result of supply constraints and say nothing of demand due to energy costs etc yet. Following sales isn't as interesting as it used to be. It used to tell you how many people wanted a thing rather than how many of a thing were manufactured.
@PhhhCough I truly wonder how much the success of Elden Ring is due to everybody suddenly discovering a punishing, tough as nails, masochists dream is what they want, and how many bought it because everybody on the internet was talking about how great it was and then proceeded to burn their copy in a fit of rage. These hype factories gain lives of their own.
I'm actually really surprised to see Demon Slayer up there, it's not a bad game but it's Naruto with Demon Slayer skin to it. I wonder if it's because of the new dlc coming.

LOL. If kids at my niece and nephews school is anything to go by, almost every single one who owns any device that will play it, purchasing it multiple times on almost every device that can play it. Every day new kids are introduced to gaming, and with it Minecraft! That makes me very happy.
EDIT: See @naruball already had this covered.
@AdamNovice I gotta hand it to him, the troll is consistent with it lol.
@Col_McCafferty I'm always too late and just see [Removed - trolling] or [Removed - unconstructive]. Kinda feel like I missed the half-time show. lol
I do enjoy reading statistics like these.
If you pat your belly while rubbing your head & squint really hard, the PS5 performed 1.8976% better than the PS6 a decade into the future from now. (But was still beaten in raw numbers by the Switch U Wii Wii)

@Ichiban I have to admit I just had a typical wry smirk reading your post until I got to reading "Switch U Wii Wii" in my head and just burst out laughing.
@BartoxTharglod oops😅, my apologies
@NEStalgia I dunno about the success and whatnot, but I'm enjoying it. It has a nice blend of exploration and adventuring. Usually the game is hard because of the players own devices. Margit too hard? Did you come straight here from the church, without exploring the in between? Because that would help with items, levels, tactics, etc.
But I digress, not here to debate whether a game is good for one individual or another. Just wanted to know, that's all.
@NEStalgia Always happy to give someone a bit of a laugh!
Not surprised.
PS5 is a fantastic home console and Elden Ring is GOTY by far. It is a must play... or even "a must Try" if you are not sure
3080, PS5, SteamDeck... It has been a great cycle for gaming hardware regardless how you want to play
@PhhhCough Oh I don't mean about it being good, bad, etc. But it's not a secret that Soulsborne just isn't for everyone, and the massive sales boom of Elden I just wonder how much of it is people that wholly knew what they were getting into and embraced the suffering, vs how much of that sales is customers that definitely won't be repeating the "mistake" next time after discovering it's not just a typical open world sandbox action game with a sane difficulty curve.
It's just a curious title because it benefited from insane hype, and I can only imagine a lot of people that had no idea what they were buying and pictured it to be like most open world games definitely had buyers remorse.
Or maybe to put it another way, if people could play a demo I wonder what sales would have looked like, lol.
Wow, Horizon Forbidden West is nowhere to be found in that top 20.
I'm guessing it won't be too long before we start seeing some pretty steep sales for that game.
@Bismarck
So now people think they're smarter for playing souls games?
@CapGod For not playing the same game for the billionth time*
@Bismarck
What do you mean? Elden ring is basically Dark Souls 6 but open world without map icons. That's it.
Edit: Demon Souls 7*
@CapGod Go back and play the older games. ER is an evolution of the formula. And that game isn't recycling every single game mechanic ever created like AC, FC, Horizon, Shadow Of War etc..
@Bismarck
Lmao.
You clearly aren't biased at all.
@CapGod You clearly lost this argument.
@PhhhCough I just like seeing good games sell well. When they don't meet expectations, we don't get sequels E.g. Knack 2, Gravity Rush, Days Gone, etc. or a decent budgeτ for the next installment.
@CapGod it's the new Rick and Morty.
@zupertramp
Elden ring?
Idk what do you mean by that?
@CapGod oh lol, probably should have provided more context. Whoops. I was just riffing off your "So now people think they're smarter for playing souls games?" comment. That was a joke for awhile, or maybe still is, that people who watch Rick and Morty have a higher IQ, or that one needs a high IQ to "get" the show.
@zupertramp
Yeah that's what I was expecting you said hahaha.
I agree haha. People have to up their self esteem somehow.
